Matt Ristrom is a musician, artist and general weirdo. He has been repairing and modifying amplifiers for over 40 years as well as using them himself as a performer and songwriter. The journey started simply as a curious musician - and without the budget to pay to have his own amplifiers repaired. Results improved after studying electronics in high school and college, and Matt continued repairing musical equipment in addition to running a recording studio, performing as a musician, and working as a recording and live sound engineer. Matts first original amplifier wasn't designed until 2019/2020 when Covid allowed the time needed to really dig into amp design. In 2022 Matt decided to move from the Kansas City area back to his home state of Minnesota and opened up a retail music store in downtown Faribault, MN. The store was originally intended as a showroom for Matts custom amplifiers but by the request of local customers, the store now carries a full assortment of instruments and amplifiers on consignment.
Matt Ristrom has worked as a recording and live sound engineer and also as a designer of pro audio speaker systems. Pictured is a Ristrom "Flame-thrower" small line array box perched on a Ristrom double folded horn. This system produces 140db RMS at one meter and can cover an audience of 4,000 for an outdoor event.
Matt has been playing musical instruments since he could walk and started performing before he was 10 years old. Projects included working bands in KS, MO and MN, recording work, and several projects of original music. Matt has published over 70 songs including 5 full length albums.
